The 25th Japanese/Korean Linguistics Conference (JK25) will take place in Honolulu, HI, from October 12 to 14, 2017. This year’s JK will feature a special session on endangered and understudied languages and dialects in Japan and Korea (see below). We will also celebrate the contributions to JK and Korean linguistics by Dr. Ho-Min Sohn, who recently retired from his faculty position at University of Hawai’i at Mānoa, and commemorate the recent passing of Dr. Noriko Akatsuka and celebrate her contributions to JK and Japanese linguistics.

Call for Papers:
The organizing committee for JK25 welcomes abstract submissions for 20-minute presentations followed by 10 minutes for discussion.
General Sessions:
Contributions to any aspect of Japanese/Korean linguistics, or comparison of these languages with other languages, are welcome. Comparative studies of Japanese and Korean are especially encouraged.
The Special Session on Endangered and Understudied Languages and Dialects in Japan and Korea (organized by Shoichi Iwasaki & William O’Grady): The organizers of JK25 would like to solicit papers on endangered and understudied languages and dialects in Japan and Korea. This is part of our effort to raise awareness of unique languages and dialects found in the two countries, including the languages of the Ryukyus and of Jeju Island. We welcome papers on any aspect of these and other understudied languages and dialects in the two countries. Our plan is to present introductory remarks on the endangered and/or understudied languages and dialects of Japan and Korea, followed by four presentations, to be selected from submissions. Our goal is to select the presentations that best illustrate the importance of the minority languages of Japan and Korea to the field of Japanese/Korean linguistics. If we decide that a submitted abstract fits better in the general session, we will forward it to the relevant selection committee.
Abstract Format:
Abstracts must be anonymous and must present original research that has not been published. Abstracts must be in English, one-page long, in a 12-point or larger font, with one inch margins at all sides and data and references on the second page, if necessary Authors may be the first or sole author of at most one abstract, and may be a non-first co-author of any number of abstracts. The
deadline for abstract submission is May 29, 2017. Authors will be notified by mid-July.

When submitting your abstract through EasyChair, please enter the title of your abstract and type ”the file uploaded” in the spaces under ”Title and Abstract” (you do not need to enter your abstract there) and upload the PDF file of your abstract using ”Uploads”. Please use the space under ”Keywords” to (i) enter four/five keywords that describe the study; (ii) choose and enter one or two of the following eight categories for the abstract: (1) phonetics/phonology, (2) morphology, (3) formal/lexical semantics, (4) formal syntax, (5) functional/usage-based linguistics, (6) sociolinguistics, including discourse and pragmatic analyses, (7) historical linguistics, and (8) psycholinguistics; and (iii) indicate the preferred mode of presentation (oral, poster presentation or either). Note that the proceedings volume will include only papers that are based on oral presentations.
