The 4th Conference of Central Asian Language and Linguistics (ConCALL-4) has been rescheduled for April 9-11, 2021.

The Center for Languages of the Central Asian Region (CeLCAR) will be hosting the 4th Conference of Central Asian Language and Linguistics (ConCALL-4) at Indiana University.

The main goal of ConCALL is to bring together experts across the fields to focus on research into how these specific languages are represented formally, as well as acquired by second/foreign language learners and also to present research driven teaching methods.

ConCALL accepts submissions on phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, language acquisition (L1 and L2), as well as language pedagogy as concerns a Central Asian language.

Keynote Speakers for the conference include leading names in Turkic, Iranian, Mongolic and Uralic linguistics, as well as phonology, syntax and second language acquisition, including:

Call for papers

We accept submissions for 20-minute paper presentations (with 10 minute post-presentation questions and discussion) on topics related to Central Asian languages and linguistics, including both the Altaic and Eastern Indo-European languages spoken in the region (among others), a diverse range of languages such as Azerbaijani, Dari, Evenki, Kazakh, Kurdish, Kyrgyz, Mari, Mongolian, Pashto, Persian, Tajiki, Tibetan, Turkish, Turkmen, Tuvan, Uyghur, Uzbek, and more. Submissions on endangered Central Asian languages (e.g. Buryat and Kalmyk (Mongolic), Shugni (Iranian), Selkup (Uralic), and Chuvash, Baskirt and Yakut (Turkic), among others, are especially welcome. Presenters will have the opportunity to submit to the published proceedings of the conference.

Submissions can include, but are not limited to:

• Language education/pedagogy, as related to Central Asian languages
• Acquisition, (first and second language acquisition of a Central Asian language or of other languages by speakers of Central Asian languages)
• Formal linguistics, (phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics, as well as their interfaces)

Each abstract will be anonymously reviewed by external reviewers working in the same field and/or same/similar languages and evaluated on a basis of overall quality, as well as interest, originality, timeliness, and relevance to the field, as well as reviewing the methodology and data collection methods and overall clarity and organization of ideas.

Submissions should consist of an anonymous, titled abstract of no more than 500 words (not including examples and references, which can be placed on a second page) submitted via EasyAbstracts (http://linguistlist.org/easyabs/ConCALL4) by December 15, 2019.
